Easiest thing to do = You can use “Present Simple” in whole story. Or You can use “Past Verb” in whole story. Do not mix them!
Hardest thing to do = You should not mix “Past Verb” and “Present Simple” together in one story, it is the most hard thing in English to mix different time-periods together in one story. You should only try when you are too accurate about it.
